In this interview, we have the pleasure of speaking with Manuel Ramalho Eanes, one of the esteemed faculty members of Porto Business School’s Executive MBA programs. A seasoned executive with a rich background in management and marketing, he shares his extensive knowledge and experience with students. Manuel discusses his journey into teaching, the rewards of educating Executive MBA students, and offers invaluable advice for those aiming to advance their careers in marketing.
Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you became involved in teaching at Porto Business School's Executive MBA courses?
MRE: I got a Management graduation from the Portuguese Catholic University and an MBA from INSEAD. I started my career at McKinsey & Co and joined NOS (Optimus) in 1999 where I have pursued my career until today. I have had many diverse and interesting challenges over the years, until B2B and Wholesale today, fortunately always in the midst of fantastic people with whom I learn a lot every day.
I was challenged to teach at PBS by Mr. Belmiro de Azevedo and “relieved” Luis Reis in Marketing in his movement to the PBS Board. I used my professional experience, my training at Kellogg offered by NOS, and the readings suggested by Miguel Almeida to support the course content.
What do you find most rewarding about teaching Executive MBA students?
MRE: I like to engage with diverse, bright, enthusiastic people and to help solve problems. My experience at PBS Executive and Digital MBAs has given me that. It has been a great pleasure to be part of the Programs and the students’ journey.
What advice would you give to Executive MBA students interested in advancing their careers in Marketing?
MRE: I would advise them to never stop trying and learning, taking advantage of technology to learn faster and fail faster. Accumulated customer response experience is the most valuable marketing tool there is.
In your view, what role does continuous learning and education, such as Executive MBA programs, play in fostering innovation and success in Marketing strategies?
MRE: Marketing is about finding new and better solutions for customers’ problems or unattended wishes. Creativity is very hard work. It takes a lot of quality input, processing, discussion. Continuous learning and education are critical for professional excellence – in Marketing and in general.
