Licenciatura in Economics (1987, University of Porto, Portugal) with the Award Foundation António de Almeida for achieving the highest final grade, MBA (1990, Insead, France) and PhD in Accounting and Finance (1999, Lancaster University, UK). Professor of Finance at the Faculty of Economics of Porto (Univ. Porto) where he has been a Faculty member since 1987, and at Porto Business School (1999 to date). Has held professional positions as Financial Analyst at CISF-Companhia de Investimentos e Serviços Financeiros (1987-1989), Senior Analyst and Assistant Director at the M&A Department of BPI (Banco Português de Investimentos (1990-1993), Financial Consultant (1993-to date) and Non-Executive Director and Charman of several Committees (Corporate Governance, Ethics, Risk) at Martifer SGPS (2008-2018), a firm listed on NYSE-Euronext Lisbon and Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Auditing Committee at IFD-Instituição Financeira de Desenvolvimento, Portugal's State-owned Promotional Bank (2018-2020). EGP Full-time MBA Director (2002-2008), Magellan MBA Director (2008-2015) and Vice-Dean at Porto Business School (2009-2015). Master in Finance Director at FEP (since 2019) and QTEM-Quantitative Techniques for Economics and Management Dean at FEP (since 2018). Member of the Financial Review Committee of the QTEM international network. Has published a number of papers in international refereed academic journals in Accounting and Finance (Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, European Journal of Finance, International Journal of Auditing, Review of Financial Markets,International Journal of Economic Law, Research in International Business and Finance, Journal of Banking Regulation, European Business Review, International Review of Financial Analysis, Business Research Quarterly, Eurasian Business Review) and national ones (Cadernos do Mercado de Valores Mobiliário, Revista de Contabilidade e Comércio) as well as books on financial topics (Cálculo Financeiro Aplicado, 2019; Dividendos e Recompra de Ações, 2012; Análise do Cash-Flow das Empresas, 1995; Análise de Rácios Financeiros, 1994). Co-Chair of the FMA-Financial Management Association European Conference held in Porto in 2011. Has supervised two Master (MSc in Finance) dissertations that won the CMVM award for the best Portuguese Master Dissertation in Finance (2008 and 2016).
